The ultimate hospo solution

The kitchen just ran out of salmon. It is 7:40 pm on a Saturday, and the dish is still live on the POS, the online menu, the app and the kiosk. Pull it from one screen and forget another, and you have bought yourself a refund, a remake, or a one-star review.

It should not take four jobs to stop selling one dish. With Nomni, it takes one.

How to mark a menu item sold out across every channel

When the kitchen has sold out a dish, the risk is that it stays orderable somewhere you didn’t check. Marking it sold out on Nomni POS closes those doors at once, so a guest can’t order what you can’t make. There are two ways to do it.

Option 1: Mark it sold out by hand.

  1. Press and hold the product on Nomni POS. The product details window opens.

  2. Tap Sold Out. The item greys out as unavailable.

  3. When stock is back, open the product details again and tap Reset.

Option 2: Let portions count it down for you. Set how many you have on hand, and Nomni marks the item sold out automatically when the last one sells.

  1. Press and hold the product on Nomni POS.

  2. Under Portions, tap Add.

  3. Enter the number you have and tap Submit.

  4. The count ticks down as the item sells. At zero, it is marked sold out automatically across Nomni POS, the Self-Ordering Kiosk, Nomni Online Ordering, the kitchen display and the Magic App.

To clear a portion count, press and hold the product and tap Reset under Portions.

How to mark a single size or menu option as sold out

Sometimes the dish is fine, and only one option has run dry: out of oat milk, but full cream is stocked, out of large but regular is fine. You can take that one option offline without pulling the whole product.

Variants can be marked sold out on the POS, as long as the option is linked to a product.

  1. In your menu management, go to Products > Product Variants and open the variant.

  2. Under Variant Value, link it to its product, then save and sync your POS.

  3. On the POS, press and hold that product and tap Sold Out. The option goes unavailable while everything else keeps selling.

How your menu stays in sync across POS, online ordering and kiosk

The reason one action can cover every channel is structural, not manual. Your menu is not four menus stitched together. It is one menu that every channel reads from.

Nomni runs on centralised menu management, one source of truth, so the change you make on the POS is the change Online Ordering, the Magic App and the Self-Ordering Kiosk all read from.

Availability set on the POS reflects across those channels. When you edit the menu itself in the back office, such as adding products or linking new variants, sync your POS to push those changes live. If you run menus across several venues, here is how that holds up at group scale.

How to snooze a menu item, and when to use it instead of sold out

Not every gap is permanent. Some items are not gone, just unavailable for a few hours: the lunch-only special, the slow-roast not ready until four, the line you are waiting on a delivery for. You can mark those sold out, but that leans on someone remembering to switch them back on later, and that is the step most easily forgotten in a busy week.

Snooze solves that by putting availability on a clock.

Snooze marks an item temporarily unavailable for a set time, then makes it available again on its own. Sold Out is a manual that you reset by hand. Snooze is time-boxed and self-resetting.

  1. In your menu, open a group's items and find the Snooze column.

  2. Tap the snooze icon and pick a duration: 1, 2, 6, 12, 24, 48 or 72 hours.

  3. Save. The item shows as unavailable for that window.

  4. When the timer runs out, it becomes available again with no one needing to reactivate it. Need longer? Extend it.

Set it up, or see it in action

If you are already on Nomni, you can set availability and snooze rules today. The help centre walks through each step.

If you are weighing it up, this is the part worth seeing: one menu, expressed across POS, online ordering and kiosk, updated from one place. Book a walkthrough, and we will show you how Nomni keeps your menu in sync.
