The ultimate hospo solution

Loyalty tiers in Nomni Loyalty are yours to configure directly from the admin panel. You control the whole ladder: how many tiers you run, what each one is called, the spend or points threshold that unlocks it, and the reward rate and perks attached to each level. You also set the rules that govern the system as a whole, the default tier new members start on, whether progression is based on spend or points, and whether members drop back down if they stop spending.

In short, from your Nomni POS admin panel you can set up and configure:

  • Each tier's name, rank and threshold

  • The reward rate and offers attached to each tier

  • Tier colours and images so each level is visually distinct

  • The default tier assigned to new members

  • Spend-based or points-based progression

  • Automatic upgrades and optional automatic downgrades

This guide walks through each of these settings in order, so by the end your tier structure is live and running on its own.

Deciding your tier structure before you build it

Before you open the admin panel, sketch your tier ladder first. A tier structure works best when each level is genuinely reachable and each step up feels worth it. As a starting point, work through:

Question

Why it matters

How many loyalty tiers?

Too many dilutes the feeling of progress. Three to four levels is a common, easy-to-follow structure.

What is the entry threshold?

Keep the first tier easy to reach so new members feel early progress.

Points or spend?

Decide whether tiers are driven by cumulative spend or accumulated points before you configure anything.

Do you want downgrades?

Decide whether members who stop spending should drop back a tier, or keep their status indefinitely.

💡 Pro tip: Map your reward rate per tier before setup too (for example, a higher percentage back at each level). Nomni Rewards lets you customise the earn rate per tier, so this is worth deciding up front rather than adjusting after members are already progressing.

Creating each tier

Tier configuration lives under Loyalty Marketing in your Nomni admin panel. Once you set them up, you can head to Nomni Studio to control how your loyalty program looks and reads to customers (naming your currency, styling the loyalty card, customer-facing copy).

  1. Navigate to Loyalty Marketing > Membership Level in your admin panel.

  2. Click "New Membership Level" to create your first tier. You will be asked for:

    • Name (for example, Classic, Explorer, Premium)

    • Amount Spent, the threshold required to unlock this tier

    • Level, the tier's rank (0 for your base tier, 1 for the next, and so on)

    • Auto Level, which should stay set to "Yes" so members progress automatically as they hit thresholds

    • Membership Colour and an optional Membership Image (max 500KB) to make each tier visually distinct

  3. Repeat step 2 for each tier in your structure, then click Save.

Setting the rules that govern the system

Once your tiers exist, the Settings screen controls how the whole system behaves.

  1. Open Settings on the Membership Level screen. You will configure:

    • Default Membership Level: the tier every new customer is assigned on signup. If you skip this, new members show as "Null," so do not leave it blank.

    • Enable Membership Level Downgrade: switch this on if you want members who fall below a tier's threshold to drop back down; leave it off if you want tiers to be permanent once earned.

    • Membership Level Criteria: choose whether progression is driven by points accumulated or amount spent over the evaluation period.

  2. Save your settings. From here, the system automatically evaluates each customer's spend or points at every transaction and moves them up (or down, if enabled) accordingly.

How the evaluation window works: tier status is assessed on a rolling 12-month basis from the date of a customer's last tier change. If downgrades are enabled and a member does not hit their tier's minimum spend within that 12-month window, they drop to the next lowest tier after the window closes.

The bigger picture

Tiers turn your loyalty program from a static discount into a progression system your customers actively want to move through. Instead of rewarding every customer identically, you direct more value toward your most engaged guests, while giving casual visitors a clear, achievable reason to become regulars.

FAQs

Where do I set up loyalty tiers?
Tiers are configured in your Nomni POS admin panel under Loyalty Marketing > Membership Level. This is where you create each tier and set the rules that govern the whole system. Tiers are not set up in Nomni Studio, which controls how your loyalty program looks to customers.

Can tiers be based on points instead of spend?
Yes. Under Settings on the Membership Level screen, the Membership Level Criteria option lets you choose whether progression is driven by points accumulated or amount spent.

Do members move up automatically?
Yes, as long as Auto Level is set to "Yes" on each tier. The system evaluates each customer's spend or points at every transaction and moves them up when they cross a threshold, with no manual work on your end.

Can members drop back down a tier?
Only if you choose to enable it. The Enable Membership Level Downgrade setting is off by default. Switch it on if you want members who fall below a tier's threshold to drop down; leave it off if you want tiers to be permanent once earned.

How is tier status assessed over time?
Tier status is evaluated on a rolling 12-month basis from the date of a customer's last tier change. If downgrades are enabled and a member does not meet their tier's minimum within that window, they drop to the next lowest tier after the window closes.

How many tiers should I create?
There is no fixed limit, but three to four levels is a common, easy-to-follow structure. Too many tiers dilutes the sense of progress.

What happens to new members before they've spent anything?
They are assigned to whichever tier you set as the Default Membership Level. If you leave this blank, new members show as "Null," so set a default when you configure your settings.
