The ultimate hospo solution

A loyalty programme can have tens of thousands of members and still be underperforming. We reviewed one hospitality programme with around 38,000 enrolled members that looked healthy on a signup dashboard. Then the behavioural numbers surfaced. Loyalty attach rate and retention were both sitting at roughly 1.82%, while comparable programmes were reaching about 60% engagement and a 49% second-visit rate in a fraction of the time.

Same member count. Completely different programme. Enrolment told one story. Behaviour told the truth.

Enrolment is not performance. The fix is not a bigger dashboard; it is measuring the right things. Here are the ten cornerstone metrics every hospitality operator should be tracking, and the levers that move each one.

1. What is loyalty attach rate, and why does it matter most?

Attach rate answers a simple question: out of every sale you ring up, how many are actually linked to a loyalty member? If 100 guests pay and only two are recognised as members at checkout, your attach rate is 2%, no matter how many people signed up months ago.

It is the foundation metric, because a big member list counts for nothing if most of your daily sales never touch the programme. Lifting attach rate is a two-part job: bring guests in easily, then recognise them automatically. Nomni Connect handles the first part by turning the very first transaction into a reward. The guest sees an exciting reward appear at payment, on the receipt or the customer display, and claims it with a quick scan or click, with no app download and no signup form, even if they paid cash.

Once they are in, Nomni's card-linked loyalty handles the second part: the next time they pay with the same card, they are recognised automatically, with nothing to open or scan. That loop is what pulls more of your everyday sales into the programme, and Nomni sees up to around 28% more repeat visits when earning is this automatic.

2. Enrolment rate: Are members growing as a share of your customers?

Enrolment rate is members as a share of your total customer base, tracked against a benchmark rather than in isolation. A flat or low rate usually points to friction at signup or a value proposition that is not landing. Nomni Connect removes that friction with scan-or-click activation that needs no app download, so even cash payers can join in seconds at the counter.

3. Active member rate: who is engaging beyond the signup?

Active member rate is the share of enrolled members actually transacting or interacting, through app opens, offer views, or comms clicks, inside a rolling window. Vanity enrolment without engagement is a leaky bucket. In the Magic App, members see their tier and their available rewards on their member card the moment they log in, and Nomni Marketing fires automations off real behaviour to pull quiet members back.

4. Redemption rate: Are your rewards actually being used?

Redemption rate is the share of issued rewards that members actually redeem. Low redemption means rewards are not landing, and an unused reward changes no behaviour. Nomni Loyalty rewards guests in your own branded currency, which carries a real dollar feel instead of abstract points, and you can tune reward rates by venue, time of day and channel to keep redemption active.

5. Second-visit rate: Are first-timers coming back within 30 days?

Second-visit rate measures how many first-timers return inside the first month, and it is the single clearest lever a young programme can pull. Early returners convert to regulars at a far higher rate, and Nomni's own data shows why the second visit is worth chasing: a member's lifetime value is around 70% higher after a second visit than after their first, even though their average spend per visit actually dips. The second visit, not a bigger basket, is what builds the value. Keeping the first tier easy to reach gives guests fast, visible progress, and Nomni Marketing can trigger an offer straight after a first visit to win the second.

6. Retention rate: how many members keep visiting over time?

Retention rate is the share of members still visiting across a defined window, the flip side of churn. The payoff for getting it right is large: in Nomni's own data, a member retained to three or more visits is worth about 3.9 times a non-loyalty guest over their lifetime, and reaches that without deeper discounting. Nomni's tiers run on a rolling evaluation window, so guests keep their status while they keep spending and drop back automatically if they lapse, which keeps the higher tiers meaningful and gives you an early read on decay.

7. Recency, Frequency, Monetary: Are you seeing the whole guest?

RFM is the three-part lens hospitality is moving toward instead of single-metric tracking: how recently a member visited, how often they come back, and how much they spend when they do. RFM is hard to run when data sits in separate systems. Nomni Insights consolidates POS, loyalty and payments data into one source of truth, with prebuilt reports and plain-English questions, so RFM becomes a view rather than a data project.

8. AOV uplift: Do members spend more than non-members?

AOV uplift compares the average order value for members against non-members, and looks specifically at the lift at redemption moments. Tiered reward rates do real work here. An Explorer guest earns more than a Classic guest, which nudges spend upward as guests climb the ladder. Nomni sees rewards lift order value and frequency by up to around 20%.

9. Customer lifetime value: What is a guest worth by tier?

CLV ties every other metric together, spend times frequency times lifespan, and it is the number a board actually cares about. Track it by cohort and by tier, not as one blended figure. Nomni Insights lets you compare CLV across tiers and sites, while the Merchant Portal lets you set reward and revenue rules per tier, so you can see which levels earn their keep.

10. Churn and win-back: How many go quiet, and how many come back?

Churn rate is how many members go quiet, and win-back recovery is how many a targeted campaign brings back. Catch it early, before decay shows up in the top line. Nomni Marketing runs behaviour-based win-back sequences off lapse triggers, and the automatic tier downgrade on Nomni's rolling window flags decay before it becomes churn.

The takeaway: measure all ten, then launch tiers first

None of these ten works in isolation. Rising enrolment with a falling active rate is a leak, not a win. High redemption with falling lifetime value is a discount programme wearing a loyalty badge. The point of tracking all ten is to see the whole guest, not just the signup.

It is also why the fastest way to move the early numbers, attach rate, engagement and second-visit rate, is to launch tiers first. Tiers turn a flat rewards scheme into visible progress. On Nomni, guests start on a base tier like Classic and climb through Explorer, Premium and Super Fan, earning a stronger reward rate at each step, with upgrades applied automatically the moment they cross a threshold. Status, not just the discount, is what pulls them back.

Get the ten numbers right, and loyalty stops being a cost centre you hope is working. It becomes the most measurable growth lever in hospitality.
